Intermediate Band 1

Intermediate 1 band takes the individual instrumental skills learned in sixth grade to the next level by introducing ensemble concepts.  These concepts are taught through different styles of concert literature.  This band participates in concerts and contests.  Some students are even selected to perform in football games and pep-rallies!  Some Intermediate 1 Band members are encouraged to audition for Region Honor Band, and to perform a solo for solo contest.

Beginning band students are taught in like-instrument classes.  In those classes students focus on the skills that pertain to their particular instrument.  This is an efficient use of time for the first year band student.  While they learn whole-band concepts in subsequent years, the individual player still needs at least some instruction specific to just his or her instrument.

Our sectionals are held once a week for one hour before school.  Some Intermediate 1 students who wish to further their study of their instrument outside of band class may elect to come, and some are encouraged to do so (especially if they will audition for Region Honor Band).

Intermediate Band 2

Intermediate 2 Band continues to develop ensemble concepts that were learned in seventh grade, and introduces ensemble concepts to advanced sixth graders.  This band plays literature that is advanced for a second band, more typical for a middle school top band.  This band participates in pep rallies, concerts, and contests.  In addition, Intermediate 2 Band members are required to attend weekly sectionals and audition for, and participate in (if selected), Region Honor Band.  Intermediate 2 Band members are also highly encouraged to perform a solo for solo contest.

A sectional is a rehearsal where small groups of like-instruments or instruments that play the same part work without the rest of the band; i.e. just the clarinets or just the percussion.  Intermediate 2 literature will likely require a given section of instruments to play a part different than that of any other section.  By working out the details of these parts in small groups, the time spent in full-band rehearsal can be focused on full ensemble concepts.

Our sectionals are held once a week for one hour before school.  The exact day and time will be arranged after school starts.  Every attempt to avoid conflicts with other activities will be made. Attendance is required for Intermediate 2 Band Members.

Advanced Band

Advanced band takes the ensemble concepts that were learned in seventh grade to a higher level.  In doing so, this band typically plays sophisticated literature (grade 4 and 5, grade 2 is typical for a top band at the intermediate school level).  This band participates in pep rallies, concerts, and contests.  In addition, Advanced Band members are required to attend weekly sectionals and audition for, and participate in (if selected), Region Honor Band.  Advanced Band members must perform a solo for solo contest.
