Musical Tribute for Space Shuttle Program
The Westbrook band has been chosen the Texas State Honor Band. Our band will be a featured performer at this year's Texas Music Educator's Convention.
We have commissioned composer Christopher Tucker to write a new piece of music for our band to perform. Mr. Tucker is a popular composer for band. His music is tuneful and his orchestration colorful making him ideal for young musicians. We asked Mr. Tucker for a work that will celebrate the 30 years of the Space Shuttle; reflecting upon both its successes and paying respect to those brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the exploration of space. The premiere for this new music will be at the Texas Music Educator's convention in San Antonio in February 2012.
Our selection as the Texas Honor Band has put us on a national stage. For our Honor Band performance we desire to give the public a sense of who we are as a community. NASA and the Space Shuttle program have been at the heart of Clear Creek Independent School District. It is fairly easy to find music literature devoted to the Apollo missions. To date, there has been no music that celebrates the successes of the Shuttle Program. We are excited that we have the opportunity to celebrate this important contribution to human space flight in our musical performance. It is our hope that this new work will be published and performed by school bands nationwide and will inspire those who hear it to value the United States space program.
There will be opportunities to hear the Westbrook State Honor Band perform here in the Clear Lake Area.
We would love to see you at our pre-TMEA performance concert 7:00 p.m. on February 2, at Clear Springs HS.
